Noordelijk Character(istics) Part 02

So I've divided the process of my project into three core phases:

1. Tracking the changes in the map of Amsterdam Noord across history. Associated these changes with a number of key dates (maximum 10)
2. Boiled down anthropological study of each neighborhood in Amsterdam Noord according to the key dates. Information on population, demographics, occupations, ethnicities, and apparel is to be acquired.
3. Visualizing the data from phase #2 into character designs in accordance with the maps/dates from phase #1

I'm still in phase #1, but so far I'm already noticing some very interesting changes that've occurred in the map of Amsterdam Noord.

Researching Amsterdam Maps

Amsterdam's City Archives is an absolutely brilliant resource for researchers. The time you spend there will not only garner you an abundance of desired information, but will also tickle all your nerdy fantasies. After only spending a handful of hours there, I was able to obtain gobs of crazy ancient maps of Amsterdam, dating back to the 16th century up until this very day.

They've got maps in the archive's personal catalogues, book collections, and on microfilm! Available for all to browse at absolutely no cost! Although most of everything is in Dutch, the archive's staff is extreeemly kind and helpful in assisting me find my way around stuff. Totally love this place.

Noordelijk Character(istics) Part 01

So I've finally come up with an idea to do for Mediamatic's Mapping for Tourists project in Amsterdam-Noord, and did a quick "pitch" of it a couple days ago, caught on video by Mahmoud Hamdy.

Three "Discoveries"

I've made three major discoveries! Very major!! Especially to severe procrastinationolics, but in no way relevant to anybody else. But procrastinationolics, rejoice!

Discovery #1: Design is mostly idea + Goal than anything else.

Discovery #2: Design is a typically never-ending process.

Discovery #3: Human Beings typically use 10-20% of their potential. At most.
